Book of Matthew If you had to tell people about a topic that was ‘life and death important’, would you start out by saying ‘Great granddaddy Sam begat Granddaddy Mark who begat Daddy Bill’? That is exactly what Matthew did. Have you ever wondered why? On September 3, we will begin a 12 week systematic study of the first 12 chapters of Matthew, using expositional techniques to explore what God has to say about the facts of history and life today. How to Deal with Difficult Passages Have you experienced problem passages with issues such as eternal security, the deity of Christ, confusion with the gospel message, the humanity of Christ, the Trinity, salvation by faith alone? Have you struggled with texts such as Hebrews 6 and 10 or perhaps John 1:1 and the “missing article?” Have you had difficulty reconciling Jesus’ teaching about the vine in John 15:1-8 with passages that clearly indicate that we cannot lose our salvation? Have any questions about James 2:14-26 or perhaps Matt. 25:31ff or Matt 7:21ff? We will take a close look at these and other Bible texts and issues which have confused many Christians. The idea is establish principles of interpreting scripture in dealing with these issues, so that we come away with a better idea of how to handle similar issues in the future. Responding to False Beliefs Have you ever been curious about what alternative faiths believe? Did you grow up in a Mormon, or Jehovah's Witness home? Do you have a spouse, family member, or other loved one who belongs to one of these groups? Have you been wondering what the hype is all about regarding the book "The Secret"? If any of these questions ring a bell with you, please join us this fall for a new class that will dive right into these beliefs and discuss how they correspond to the principles of the Bible, and the teachings of Jesus Christ. We will begin our journey with an eight week course on The Church of the Latter Day Saints, or as most people know them, Mormons. This course will educate you on the core values, and beliefs of the church, and how they relate to the Bible. Most importantly, this course will be a support group and an outlet for those of us who have come out of Mormonism, or who have family members, or other loved ones, who are still members. This will be a safe place, where we can share and learn with love, tolerance, and compassion. People of alternative faiths are not the enemy, and we are to love them as Christ loves us. This will not be a group that bashes or condemns other faiths. Our hope and prayer is that we can come together, and through the sharing of our experiences, and through sound Biblical teaching, we can find a way to share who Jesus really is in a loving, meaningful way that will have a positive impact on those who choose to hear it. Blended Families The blended family is becoming more and more common in our society today. In any family where the husband or wife has been previously married and children from one or both spouses are shared among stepparents and natural parents, things can get pretty crazy sometimes. But God is a God of second chances, and He is not surprised by our past. We, too, are a blended family, and we know that God has forgiven our past. He is working mightily in our present and giving us much hope for our future! If you are part of a blended family, then come join us on an exciting journey with God!
